From Flemish Bloc to Flemish Interest

Flemish Bloc is a Flemish nationalist party who wants an independent Flanders (including Brussels).

Flemish Bloc has been banned by a court arrest following a conviction, on the charge of racism, of three non-profit organizations linked to the former party. The party programme has been touched up and a new name, Flemish Interest (Vlaams Belang), chosen.

The party flag and logotypes shown below have been abolished.

Official flag of Flemish Bloc

The flag of Flemish Bloc is as follows:

  • upper half: yellow field with a black Flemish lion (no red tongue or claws - the independence movement uses an all-black lion, whereas the official Flemish lion has a red tongue and claws).
  • lower half: black field with the Dutch colours on it. (Thus, in fact, five horizontal stripes: black, orange, white, blue, black).

On the white band, there is the name of the party Vlaams Blok in black and on the lowest black band the name of the province or section in white, e.g., AFD. AALST (section Aalst).

BRTN (Flemish public TV) news reported a meeting of Vlaams Blok. There were two sorts of flags side-by-side: yellow with a black lion, and a logotype on a white field.

Although the flag with the logotype probably is not the party flag, on stage there were as many logotype flags as the real party flags.
